slackware doesnt come with openoffice.org. so i was wondering if it would be safe to use the RPM version from suse 9, and rpm2tgz it and install it. i have dialup, and downloading a kernel, openoffice, and other programs is painful, so dont make me do it.
also, i used suse 9 for a while, and winex3 worked perfectly on it. DeusEx, the only game i ever play, worked fine on suse 9 with winex3. i have the RPM version, and i used rpm2tgz to sucessfully install it, and it worked. but when i played deus ex, i didnt ge the same results as i did with suse 9. in fact, it couldnt even run the game. before you play DeusEx, it has you configure graphics and drivers etc..., where you can select openGL rendering, direct3d, all that other graphics junk, and it just crashed right there. what's the deal?
You know what? I didn't rpm2tgz OpenOffice when I installed it last month on my Slackware 9.1 machine... I ran the install straight from the RPM I downloaded and it worked perfectly.
nope. its an intel 82852/GM (graphics mobile) i810. for laptops. why? what's the problem? if you're having the same problem, check out www.xig.com, im using it now, and my laptop now goes to 1024x768, and i gotta update my sig.
no the gateway 450x that I purchased came with a ATI Radeon Mobility and goes up to 1400x1050, which is plenty, it might go more but I haven't tested it. anyway. I was just curious.
I am not sure if you are just wanting to install it from an RPM which there is no need whatsoever since, if you go to to OpenOffice.org and download their current version in a tar.gz format, tar -xvzf OO*.tar , cd OO* ./setup NOT INSTALL it will start a gui installation. There is no compile needed. Just a thought.
