past kernel-compiling problem


Yesterday I compiled the 2.4.22 Kernel after I had installed Salckware 9.1 totally new .. when I was rebooting or when I was trying to do so there wasn't this red LILO thing where I could choose which kernel to load (vmlinuz.old / vmlinuz) ..there was only..

chaecking DMA Pool ...

L 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99
99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 ...
and so on till the end

any guess what tha is/was .. how it could happen and what to do against it ?

LILO is installed on MBR an /boot is a small partiton

I don't know what HD you have but check to make sure your CMOS is set correctly. If you can boot on the CD and then mount your HD, you may want to recompile again with ATA/IDE/MFM/RLL support ---->IDE, ATA, and ATAPI Block Devices--->Use Multi Mode by default[*].

thanks for your help .. I found the failure ...
I changed lilo.conf .. the boot = ... part from "boot = /dev/hda" what means the MBR if i understodd that correctly to "boot = /dev/hda1" where my /boot should be mounted .. I thought /dev/hda thats my whole HD, isn't it .. why should lilo boot that whole thing ? so I changed it .. now everything is alright again..
