Partition Setup (Upgrades)


What is a good partition Setup for future Upgrades? Just wanted some opinions.

You could have a look at this thread as some posts in it speak about upgrading.

IMO that very much depends of your system's usage.

For instance a very simple layout (only one partition for / note even a separate /home) fits my needs on a laptop, but I can understand that people maintaining servers with a lot of services prefer to have more partitions, as e.g.stated by Tronayne in this post . Of course the layout will take in account your space on disks and how many physical storage devices you have.

Hmmm... Seems like copying all the important time consuming config files and 3rd party programs / scripts to storage and running a fresh install is the best way to go...
