partition setup

I'm getting ready to install slack and have read all the documents about how to do my partition and have my layout and am curious as to what a few different partitions actualy do but first my layout:

60gig hd

/ - 5gig
/swap - 256meg (only 128 MB in machine :s)
/boot - 1gig
/usr - 5gig
/home - 30gig
/mud - 15gig
/opt - 3gig

I'm going to be using the machine as primarily a hosting machine for muds and ftp of some files. Should I change my layout? And, what is the /opt partition for, I've seen it used in all the partition guides. Thanks in advance.

/opt is described in there.

Unless slackware is very different, You don't need that much space for the /boot partition. Maybe 100MB would be a better size.

What are muds?

MUD (Multi-User-Dungeon) is a text based game. I did redo the final partitions in better sizes, thanks for the tip.
