java&opera

I don't know that a java plugin needs to be listed in the plugins section if you set the path in the multimedia section. In opera prefs I have no java path listed and no java plugin listed, yet java is enabled and working fine. If you run KDE, check the settings in control ceneter->internet->web->java...for a path to the java exec. Something like: [/usr/lib/java/bin/java] or [/usr/lib/java/jre/bin/java] Or run a "whereis java" or "slocate java" in console to find a path to the executable.

If you need the plugin installed, a symbolic link to or copy of [/usr/lib/java/jre/lib/i386/libjava.so]? in your [/usr/lib/opera/plugins] directory might get it. That is, where [/usr/lib/opera/plugins] is in your plugins path in opera prefs.

If all else fails, reinstall (j2re/j2sdk and/or opera)

had the same snarl up. like advised above <cd > to your plugins folder as root (make sure everything including java source is installed in your home directory, if you don't have root auth) and do
ln -sf /java/j2re1.4.2_03/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so libjavaplugin.so
if this dont work, end it with libjavaplugin_oji.so
you can get THE most current java which i used in the example from www.java.com, and click the links. about 2 mins on a broadband. half the night on dial up. its big.
(the /java/j2re.....etc is where i have mine. yours most likely is different)
