I don't know if it's worth trying the slackware current package.

http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/slackware/...slackware/kde/

K3b has recently been moved out of extra into kde/ due to a change in k3b. Here's the quote from the changelog.

kde/k3b-1.0.1-i486-1.tgz: Upgraded to k3b-1.0.1. Moved into main tree now
that k3b is no longer trying to make cdrecord setuid root. :-)

Whether that would help I'm not sure. Otherwise, if you're using a 2.4 kernel, have you got the 'append=scsi' line in lilo.conf?

Please don't use -current packages if you're not running -current, they most likely will not work, and probably give you a headache in the meantime.

With a 2.4 kernel, I think you need to add a line to /etc/lilo.conf. You can add it somewhere near the top. It might already be there.

append="hdc=ide-scsi"

I think that's right. That is if your dvdrw is on hdc.

And don't forget to run 'lilo' afterwards.

k3b in -current will link to the new KDE's path, which is now in /usr, not in /opt/kde again
perhaps you should grab the source and rebuild it using the Slackbuilds in the source directory rather than using the package in -Current
