I fixed it by buying a soundcard that supports hardware mixing. My old SB16 didn't
I think another way may be to use artsd in the command line for your browser - ie artsd firefox. But it lags the sound a bit sometimes

In other words, you don't get sound when you play Flash movies.

Start Firefox with "artsdsp firefox" (if you use arts), "esddsp firefox" (if you use esd), or "aoss firefox" (if you use neither arts nor esd). You WILL get sound then.

If not, let us know in this thread.

dive: which soundcard did you buy? And do you recommend it?

An Audigy 4 - works fine with some tweaking as there is no output on start up until the Audigy A switch is switched on, but this is easily done with

Code:
amixer sset 'Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack' 'on'
somewhere in a startup script. Don't know if I would recommend it over another make, but it does make life much easier having hardware mixing. Incidently, I don't know why exactly, but it is only a few sites with flash that have no sound like google video, most flash sites work ok with sound and software mixing.
