Waiting now is just bad strategy. I told myself couple of days ago: previous day died yesterday next is to be born tomorrow.

Let us not make far reaching plans. Everything is ready. Just press red button. Let us open champaign bottles. And have good party.

You really do not have any other options... It's written in the contract.

Isn't the answer bleeding obvious?

I like to imagine some posts/threads here like a dialogue. This is an interesting one.

The OP, was seated in front of Patrick with a severe expression on the face. He/She sighed before start talking. His/Her voice was impatient, and the tone was reproachful. "Mr. Volkerding, please, release 15.0 as soon as possible..." - and after some dramatic pause, he/she added -"... even sooner".

Patrick Volkerding looked him/her with the peaceful and patient eyes of a man who apply the same criteria to release his distribution for the last three decades. The only reason for that person be there, in his front at that moment, is that: these criteria works! The OP is there precisely because the decision of the previous versions releases was taken when the product was really done. That is why the OP uses it! So, here comes the humble and wise answer. Once more, that serene expression in his face and his voice. "As sooner as possible... right... I will." - another dramatic pause - "However, it is not possible, yet."

Volkerding gets up. Push the chair towards the table gently. Finally, he adds: "I'm going back to work. Thanks."

Thread solved?

You seem to be clueless in the testing of software before release. Release candidates are put out so people can test and report. If no issues are found, then a release can occur. If issues are found, they're fixed and sometimes another release candidate is made.

Testing takes time. Releasing now without testing taking the proper amount of time for testing would be the bad strategy.

I'm glad Pat hasn't been listening to you.

I installed -current a couple weeks ago (image dated November 9), and have LibreOffice working perfectly fine on it. I did like I always do: Download the RPM, extract, convert all RPM files to TGZ, and run installpkg on all TGZ files from there. That has never been a problem, regardless of Slackware or LO version.

Haven't tried any Slackbuilds yet, but everything that's included seems to be working fine.

No need to convert RPMs. There's a "native" Slackware version of LO available at Alienbob's repository.

How much time do we need for testing? Three, six months? Supposedly we are waiting now for next plasma release. Once it will incorporated it should be RC3. Time for new version of plasma testing. Say approximately it will arrive January coming year. Plus 3 months gives Slackware stable being released next year in May.

Or once new Plasma appears Slackware will be released without testing.

I really don't get it with all your "I want a new release posts".
PV decides - simple as that and if you are not able to accept that simple fact then go and find yourself another distribution.

That's the one I'm using. But it keeps crashing at startup. I'm pretty sure from the error messages that it's a java problem but so far I haven't cracked it. If anyone here is knowledgeable about the LO/java connection, there's a thread I posted on it yesterday in the Software forum.

Great! I'll try that. If I had known that the alien repo contained such a thing, I wouldn't have bothered building my own. What I did, for the record, was to download jdk from the oracle site and then used the java tools in extra to repackage it as described in the slackdocs HOWTO. It installed OK but it doesn't seem to work nicely with LO.

Nope. Still doesn't work.

Speaking of grey hairs, I have alienbob in the slackpkg+ greylist. Especially helpful with "slackpkg install alienbob"

I'll give his version a shot on my next install, but I've been converting from RPMs for 10 years with no issues. No crashes, no speed issues, nothing. The entire process takes maybe 10 minutes. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
