vi /etc/X11/XF86Config

vi is a text editor, you might prefer some other editor so substitute vi accordingly

If the file is empty, it means you haven't configured xfree yet... try running xf86config as root.

Answer a few questions, and you should be able to have a working X system.

You should have a section similar to this:

Code:
Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier	"Mouse 1"
	Driver "mouse"
	Option "Device"	"/dev/mouse"
	Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
EndSection
Just change the protocol section to "Auto" and your mouse should work.

OK, lets start from the beginning...

1) You want mouse function in xwin right? ie. KDE, Gnome, some other window manager.

2) You are able to get to X... ie. the desktop right?

3) Please describe the connector of your mouse.

For COM1 mouse:

Code:
Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier	"Mouse 1"
	Driver "mouse"
	Option "Device"	"/dev/tty00"
	Option "Protocol" "Auto"
EndSection

For COM2 mouse:

Code:
Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier	"Mouse 1"
	Driver "mouse"
	Option "Device"	"/dev/tty01"
	Option "Protocol" "Auto"
EndSection
