Anyone know how to fix this? I'm pretty sure that it has to do with mate-polkit. Just not sure why. My own build ends up the exact same as Willy's with all the same files going in all the same places.
Can't reproduce that, pkexec gparted works fine on my machines.
I then applied my 12 1.26 packages: the assertion messages still occurred.
I then downloaded and applied all 52 mate 1.26 packages: the assertion messages no longer occur.
The fact that the assertion messages occur with my 12 packages under Mate as well as XFCE indicates that the DE is not the culprit.
The fact that the assertion messages do not occur with the 52 packages indicates that one or more of the 40 (52 - 12) "additional" packages is/are the culprit.
So I started to remove the additional packages one by one from the 52-full install and see whether or not the assertion messages would reoccur. I expected a long session but actually the first removal, the extra/caja-action package, turned out to be the culprit.

i tried removing xfce, but the problem of blank screen persists when my monitor stays idle and my power management kicks in
I still haven't been able to reproduce this. What are your power management settings?
I can let the screen dim and turn off, and the move of a mouse brings me right to the lock screen.
I should probably add that I am on a laptop and remove Xfce immediately after installing MATE, which is immediately after installing Slackware. So everything is spanky clean and fresh (hopefully with not too many things touched by Xfce).

i removed XFCE as well now and just set to disable monitor sleep features. I turn it off manually
Anyone want to test out my lightdm SlackBuilds with MATE?
I was planning on submitting them to SBo for 15.0, but would like some feedback before that happens. It only has one dependency on current (that is really only for the settings app) python-distutils-extra with python3 support. The "theme" is just the OOBE login box and a top-panel, but it can be extensively themed through the settings app and via the config file.
i have lightdm and lightdm-gtk-greeter on my desktop and it has SBo tag in it, but it wasn't available in SBo. I guess i made them before but delete it somehow

Well that's OK, you can maintain them.
You can take gtk-greeter-settings too if you want it.
I had to make a little fix where I was testing something but forgot to remove it.
what is mate-infra? that is not part of my MSB package
As you can see from the $BUILD$TAG it does not claim to be one of your packages.
I created this little package to integrate your packages in my environment. It contains libsynctex.so (I am not installing the 77 MB texlive package for this 116.4 KB library) and some .desktop files (commented out the OnlyShowIn=MATE phrases) and icons.
