Latest Slackware update (27 Aug. 2010) and Nvidia . . .
Probably everyone else in the world knows this, but I had to figure it out.
The latest Slackware update includes and update Xorg server. Be aware that if you're using a proprietary video card driver (like Nvidia's for instance), you'll need to reinstall it after the upgrade.

I used to have NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.31-pkg2.run,
My effects disappeared with the X update. Could not reinstall
because of some bug where it could not find the kernel headers.
So I reinstalled the kernel source with pkgupgrade --reinstall,
and then installed NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-173.14.27-pkg2.run,
which is supposed to the latest, and it glitched like crazy,
so I rolled back to NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.31-pkg2.run,
and that worked.
Benefit for SlackBuild users: no reinstall needed. Just do "nvidia-switch --nvidia" and be happy
Ack! I should have thought of that. Oh well, a simple 'upgradepkg --reinstall nvida*.t?z' worked well for me. It installed my regular driver and the 32-compat driver too.
