kernel compiling

I read a post about compiling a new kernel and it said that the makefiles are in /usr/src/ but I looked in there and it was empty. What package do I need to install to get the source code? Which CD is it on, 1 or 2?

Thanks in advance.

you might wanna just go to www.kernel.org and download the latest stable kernel (2.4.22). get the whole thing by clicking on the F next to the 2.4.22 line, because just clicking on 2.4.22 would just get you the patch. then just uncompress it to /usr/src and that'll get you to the starting point to compile a new kernel. then all you'll need to do is follow the directions in the sticky at the top of this forum

Otherwise it would be on your second CD, in the /slackware/k directory. Go there in your terminal (you'll prolly have to mount your CDROM first), and then run "pkgtool". But I recommend getting accustomed to Slackware a bit first, and maybe try to get that 3Com card working, and then start dabbling in kernel compilation.
