Angry kernel and perhaps gcc problem

I've just installed slack 10.2 full with all the packets.
After a little configuration through it , i started thinking to start compiling some stuff from sources. I began with a chat , vychat but i keep reciving

"collect2: ld terminated with signal 11 [Segmentation fault]"

Then i tried vqcc-gtk , another chat which gives me :

" -g -O2 -c `test -f 'gui_ulist.c' || echo './'`gui_ulist.c
*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (!prev): 0x0877c1e8 ***
gui_ulist.c: In function `info_tip_time_format':
gui_ulist.c:415: internal compiler error: Aborted"
It seems i cannot compile anything from source..i have the default gcc version installed.

When i try to compile the kernel ..and i give it a make xconfig it outputs a:

make xconfig
HOSTCXX scripts/kconfig/qconf.o
*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid next size (fast): 0x086002d8 ***
scripts/kconfig/qconf.cc: In constructor `ConfigMainWindow::ConfigMainWindow()
':
scripts/kconfig/qconf.cc:978: internal compiler error: Aborted
What is very wierd is that if i try make gconfig it works ok..Hope someone has an idea about what the problem could be..would a complete reinstall help?

Do you mean you succeed to compile the kernel but
not the programs you wanted to compile ?

Are you running on 64bits hardware ?

No problem here. Compiled a quite few things with no issue. Are you sure everything's installed? Is your CPU overclocked?
