kernel-2.6.9 and gcc 3.4.2

Hi! I'm trying to compile kernel-2.6.9 with gcc 3.4.2. I'm using fedora core 3. I want to use kernel-2.6.9 because of driver issues with 2.6.10, specifically with my pctel modem driver. When compiling (make) the kernel, I get this error:

drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/qla_os.c: In function `qla2x00_queuecommand':
drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/qla_os.c:315: sorry, unimplemented: inlining failed in call to 'qla2x00_callback': function not considered for inlining
drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/qla_os.c:269: sorry, unimplemented: called from here
drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/qla_os.c:315: sorry, unimplemented: inlining failed in call to 'qla2x00_callback': function not considered for inlining
drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/qla_os.c:269: sorry, unimplemented: called from here
make[3]: *** [drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/qla_os.o] Error 1
make[2]: *** [drivers/scsi/qla2xxx] Error 2
make[1]: *** [drivers/scsi] Error 2
make: *** [drivers] Error 2

What's wrong here? How do I fix this? Is it ok to use the .config of a higher kernel version into a lower one?

hi there

i have been usong .copnfig of higher version in lower kenrel versions
like 2.6.9 in 2.6.8 and i have faced no such problem

regarding ur problem i think you should remove the option of SCSI from ur config ,if u do not use SCSI
and if that too fails ,try using a fresh copy of kernel source
maybe the source is corrupted

regards
