My kde seems to start for root, but not for my user account.
~/.xsession-error for the user account has only this
stderr is not a tty - where are you?
I've got no idea where to start. Every other window manager starts fine except kde
Where else could i look for error messages? Is there some environment variable that should be set?
I also notice that since /opt/kde (or whatever) is not in my path normally apps from kde won't run in other WM's. Could this be the problem?
I just don't get it why root works and user account doesn't.

at least that gives me a starting point! so i'm one step ahead from where i was...
you couldn't suggest what sort of files i should be checking could you?
thanks I got it fixed anyway.
For the record, this was not a permission problem, but that I had done some screwy things to my ~/.profile file.
so if anyone ever does stupid things like i do to their computer and can't work out why kde no worky...
