inetd acting up

Hello. I have been using Slackware for years, since about version 7. I have been seeing the same behavior in every version up through Slack10. Every once in a while, I notice that the CPU is working overtime when it should be idle. When I run top, the culprit always the same. inetd is using ~40-60% CPU time. I reboot, and everything is fine again. I can't find any specific circumstances that trigger this, it just happens sometimes. Whenever this happens, the /var/log/syslog file gets filled up with line after line of

Jul 13 17:25:38 Ahmed inetd[3025]: /usr/sbin/in.identd: exit status 0x1
Jul 13 17:25:38 Ahmed inetd[17546]: execv /usr/sbin/in.identd: No such file or directory
Jul 13 17:25:38 Ahmed inetd[3025]: /usr/sbin/in.identd: exit status 0x1
Jul 13 17:25:38 Ahmed inetd[17547]: execv /usr/sbin/in.identd: No such file or directory
Jul 13 17:25:38 Ahmed inetd[3025]: /usr/sbin/in.identd: exit status 0x1

over and over again. The file /usr/sbin/in.identd does not exist. Is this a known bug in inetd?
As I said, I've seen this in every version of Slack from 7 to 10. Any help is appriciated. Thanks.

In my default install in.identd does exist, so this seems to be more a problem with your install. Maybe the options you use on install? While it does not tell us what is going wrong, if you don't need it you could always comment it out in /etc/inetd.conf.
