No inetd..

I'm considering skipping starting Inetd at startup since it looks like I don't got any use for it..

The only service I'm running on my workstation is sshd(running standalone), besides that I use various net-programs such as games, browsers and so on. Does those programs/services start to malfunction if I skips inetd?

Btw, what's the difference between xinetd and inetd?

One more questions; when I list the processes on my system I got several kdeinit running(about 5-7). What do they do? They consumes alot of memory..

regards,
Cyth

Np...

If the apps you don't mention by name don't depend on (x)inetd, therell be no problem. (X)inetd is only a "superserver" meaning itll hook up the actual daemon with the incoming request, which is not needed for browsers, games etc.

Stupidly enough I've always avoided using (x)inetd, so I don't know the difference, except xinetd sposed to be be kinda trusted, now it's been reviewed by Solardesigner (of OpenWall fame).
