I'm trying out the ICE window manager version 1.2.29 I built it from source using Slackbuilds.org build scripts.
I do not see an autostart folder or file of any kind.
So My question is:
1. where do I put my xmodmap settings?
2. how do I tell icewm to startup the "rox-desktop' once I get into ICE?
3. Is there anyway to reduce the number from 4 to 2 virtual desktops on the bottom bar in ICE? My screen is small on this pc and there's not much room on the task bar.
iceWM has a lot of options but no built-in configuration helper. I'd still like to wotk out mnore tweaks for it myself. But I did find a menueditor, from the folks that wrote EndeavourII, plus I keep a config tool that the developers produced some time ago. It uses pyGTK, but has it statically linked with the binary. It includes about a dozen configuration applets -pretty cool actually -a crafty type can even add applets which will run python code- it has the python interpreter also staically linked in there.
You can find the sources for this stuff here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/...WinMgrs/IceWM/
Or packages here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/...GUIcomponents/
I'm glad to see your post since I was unaware of the newer version. Also I hope that some die-hard iceWM users will chip in with their tips.
1. at your home (~/.xmodmap or .Xmodmap I don't remember..)
2. ~/.icewm/preferences
3. Hmm I am not sure but.. ~/.icewm/preferences/ Change the WorkSpaceNames as you wish.

Rep:
"$HOME/.Xmodmap" should be fine.
I never got the ~/.icewm/startup actually working, but added some lines to ~/.xinitrc (and maybe also /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.icewm if you sometimes switch between window managers).
EDIT: I don't know if xinitrc.icewm is installed by default.
