First post , stupid question and a quick hello

First : Hello !

I'm a recovering W*&^%$#@! user and have been running Ubuntu since Dapper came out . I've ended up learning a whole lot more than I had intended , and I ain't complainin a bit .

Current distro :
Mutagenix 2.6.18.6 ( based on Slackware 11.0 )

Goal :
Live CD with tweaks ( portable and able to run without disturbing the host machine )

Question :
Booting with " linux copy2ram eject vga=773 nomount " should leave the host machine completely untouched , right ? Not a trace ?

Thanks for looking !

Don't worry, you're not the only one who's been stuck on Wysiwig editors - we'll have you into LaTeX in no time!

Answer: yes.

Really, pretty much every live CD in existence does not touch the hardware ... that's the whole point ... that's why if your HDD fails, you can still run a live CD.

Now, what you're doing is loading the whole data on the disk into RAM, then ejecting the disk. That works too ... but you need as much RAM as the CD has data ... around 700 MB ? Maybe it's not all full ?

I assume 'W*&^%$#@!' means M$ ?

Hi WIREHEAD,
If you are interested in live CD Linux take a look at the ones on Linux from Scratch. They are about as far as live CDs have come. They have a couple of commands by the name of hibernate and resume. Hibernate pushes stuff to the swap space and resume brings it back so you can stop your computer any time and continue where you left off when you feel like it. All your config stuff like users and keyboard are there.
I have not tried yet but have wondered what happens if you use a floppy or usb stick as your swap. It should then be portable.
LQ has a forum for Linux from Scratch.

It would take so much time to resume from usb, so it's not so practical.
