Firefox 1.5 install Question

Ok Im an utter NoOb when it comes to Linux. I just installed Slackware 10.2 on a spare machine I had hangin around. Noticed that there was an updated version of Firefox out, so I went to linuxpackages.com and downloaded the slackware package. I used the pkgtool to uninstall the previous version of Firefox, then used the installed the new version.
Went to open the Firefox browser and it is not in the application list. So I rebooted the system. Upon opening the applications list again after reboot it's still not showing up. I can access the browser by the run command and typing Firefox. so I know that its installed, but how to I get it so that its accessible through the applications list agian?
Any help is greatly appriciated.

What Desktop are you using?
Can you see where the old link in the app list was pointing? You probably need to update that link with the new location of the firefox executable (or create a new link). At the command prompt type 'whereis firefox' to find it's present location.

Ok. There should be a space between /usr/bin/firefox and /usr/lib/firefox. So your executable should be in /usr/bin/firefox. This is the default location for a slackware installation.

As far as a new link, I actually can't help there as I don't use KDE. I would check in the KDE admin browser for a way to edit the menus. Otherwise I'm sure someone will come along here with the knowledge.

You could first try:
"start"
settings
menu updater tool
- scan your pc to see if it picks up the executable

or

right click the "start" button and choose "menu editor". Go to 'Internet' and right-click and select "new item", fill in the blanks and click the icon to be taken to the icon browser and choose the FF icon.

That worked. Used the update tool it found the exe. put it back in the applications menu. It did however install 2 links to the firefox exe, which was easily fixed by editing the menu and deleting one of the entries.
Thanks so much for the help everyone.
