Error while smbmount ???

When i try to :
mount -t smbfs -o username=xxx,password=xxx //pc1/win /mnt/smb

it gives me the following error...

smbmount: relocation error: /usr/lib/samba/charset/CP850.so: undefined symbol: smb_register_charset

What should I do ...

Has this mount command ever worked for you in the past? Also, how did you install your copy of Samba? (RPM, source, came stock with your distribution?) My gut reaction is just to reinstall the latest version of Samba. But try answering those questions first.

Well ...samba comes along with Slackware 10 ...I have not touched it at all.... And I don't remember if it has worked ever ...well I guess I'll just remove it and install it again from source ...
Thanks Anyway

A relocation error is indictative of an unresolved symbol or call to a routine that resides in a library.. so, maybe you've compiled/installed a new library (i.e. something that resides in your /usr/lib/) and your Samba install is dynamically linking to that library that has changed -- and the function its looking for is no longer there. My suggestion, is that if you need to get it up and running, is just re-install Samba from scratch. Back up your /etc/samba/ (or your /usr/local/samba or /usr/samba config files -- depending on your distribution installation tree), and build it.

Good thinking, but this is a fresh install. It failed right after the install, and still failed after installed the updated RPM. I did an strace and it finds all libraries it's looking for.

Is Samba compatibility configured into your kernel? (File systems --> Network File Systems --> SMB file system support)

I fixed my problem by installing the smbmount.tar.gz package separately ...... don't know if it's gonna work for u .... Also you have to find this file : CP850.so and put it here: /usr/lib/samba/charset/CP850.so....
