dial modem from command line

I use kppp to dial up. How can I use my modem from the CLI without starting x? I read the slackbook and it mentioned ppp-on and ppp-off, but I don't have those commands, even as root. Are there any other options for a console ppp dialer?

Try "pppsetup" as root, as explained here:

http://www.slackware.com/config/ppp.php
