compile kernel on one computer for use on another

Hi,

I will be installing Slackware 9.1 on a Dell with twin CPU's tomorrow and know that I will have to recompile the bare.i kernel to add SMP. My question is this, Since I know that the bare.i kernel works on his system (just slow) can I go ahead and use make xconfig to enable smp, save it and make the bzImage to use on his machine at install time tomorrow? If so, what files do I need to make sure I have on the CD so that when Slack asks me what kernel to use and I point it to the cd, it will have everything it needs?

Thanks in advance

The kernel itself should be fine but the modules may cause problems. If you copy over the modules you made (making sure the path is exactly the same) then you should be OK.

I have compiled kernel for another computer with totally different processor and hardwares. The trick is, don't use module to safe you the trouble.

Oh I'm not sure what form slack wants its kernels in. Just install as usual and add the new kernel in later.
