I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post questions on SLAX. I am not able to find a dedicated forum for SLAX, therefore i decided to post my questions in this forum since SLAX is derived from slackware.
I tried to run SLAX Version 6 & 7, but non of them could display the KDE console on the screen. Instead a black screen is display after successful booting of SLAX commands.
Just to check if my asus model is suitable for SLAX?

It seems that you have hybrid graphics or Optimus technology, that could confuse the X server somehow. We could check if you attach or provide a link to /var/Xorg.0.log to your next post. Show also your /etc/X11/xorg.conf if any.
Sometimes your firmware (BIOS or UEFI) allows you to choose to set the graphic card using either Optimus (allow switching on the fly), discrete or integrated graphics. If that is the case, try "discrete only" or "integrated only" See also this how-to.

Obviously vitalstrike82 gathered that information from Windows and that gives some clues, so that's good.
@vitalstrike82: if not already done try starting Slax without graphical desktop as explained in this page. This could allow you to provide information I requested.

The two are not the same. A Slackware solution may or may not work for you.
And I find it hard to believe that you are unable to find the SLAX forum. Search google for "slax forum" and you'll find http://slax.org/forum.php . LQ does not have a forum for SLAX because everyone who uses SLAX discusses her issues on that official forum.

I didn't even know that Windows could provide that information.

The error is not completely clear to me.
KDE = graphical desktop.
Console = black screen (terminal) with white characters, no GUI
KDE konsole = terminal in a KDE window
So what is displayed and what not? Please confirm.
Since usually the KDE graphical environment gives problems, for the moment I assume the GUI is not displayed.
Can you boot any live distro with any other desktop except KDE?
Can you get into a terminal with CTRL-ALT-F1?
If so, please provide
- the output of /var/log/Xorg.0.log
- the output of lspci -v -v (only the paragraphs with VGA info)
Start with blacklisting the nvidia drivers.
Create a file in /etc/modprobe.conf
name: nvidia-blacklist.conf
contents:
Code:
blacklist nouveau
blacklist nv
blacklist nvidia
(Any Slack expert, please correct this blacklist instruction for Slack)
My presumption is that KDE does not play nicely with the new Intel VGA adapter if the Intel GPU is being used. OR Nvidia is activated, and KDE does not play with that one. Althought with the latter (Nvidia GPU) the logon screen usually is shown and KDE crashes only after logon.
