I just recently discovered, much to my own chagrin, that the 4TB external hard drive that I had purchased was not designed to be compatible with my operating system. I have since, however, found a 4TB external hard drive that IS compatible with it.

IIRC, newer kernels have exFAT support. It's just rare they are enabled by default. I'd like to see quality ZFS support. Who normally cares about exFAT besides Windows users?

Until Linus Torvalds changes his mind/stance on OpenZFS, it will never happen and you will just have to accept manually compiling it into the kernel.

ExFAT support is included in Slackware 15.0 and newer as a module.

Code:
CONFIG_EXFAT_FS=m
