Unhappy boot problem


hi..

i've installed slack 11... had been using it from about 1 week.

now am not able to boot it properly..i get this message which i dont understand.

vfs:cannot open root device "307" or 03:07. please append a correct "root="
boot option
kernel panic :
vfs:unable to mount root fs on 03:07.

Sounds like your drive is breaking... unless you've added a new drive recently?

Did you follow advise and check the "root=" in your bootloader's configuration file? Unless it's a label, I doubt "307" is a valid device.

Make sure that you've got the correct drivers and modules in your kernel install for your harddrive. If its a sata drive you need the some of the scsi parts put into the kernel.

If you dont, you'll get the exact problem you've described.

You really need to provide more information.

Was it booting Ok and then stopped booting?

If answer to this is yes ; did you do anything which might have broken things?

What kernel are you using?

Are you using initrd?

What is your partition set up?

I think he recompiled kernel and didn't change lilo.conf (or made some mistakes when changing). But please post more info.
