After Thursday's updates, I haven't been able to open gwenview and it complains it can't find libexiv2.so.5. I attached a screenshot showing that. FWIW, I'm using -current 64 multilib, with Alien's KDE 4.6. I have tried reinstalling exiv2-0.21-x86_64-1 using upgradepkg and it still complains of the missing library. The previous version didn't have this problem. I'm willing to test its behavior in other programs, but I don't know which ones use it. The images previews in Dolphin still work, but I don't know what Dolphin uses to generate the thumbs.

kdegraphics needs to be compiled against the new exiv2. Or try to reinstall the previous exiv2. It was the same package as in 13.1.
So the problem will be fixed if I rebuild kdegraphics? AlienBOB has the slackbuild ready. I can do that. His package for 4.6 should be rebuilt if that is the cause of this problem.
other third party applications must be updated for the new exiv2 (kphotoalbum, that needs a patch, is another example), but just let this people breathe.
we know current is a moving target so it's normal that things occasionally break for some time, especially if they're not in the main tree and have to be kept in sync: let's just wait patiently and they'll be fixed.
if you absolutely need gwenview you can try a rebuild from his slackbuilds.
but if you need it so bad, maybe you should stay on stable or maybe use the standard kde in current, just a thought.
going bleeding edge has it's price.
Oh no ponce, I don't need it so bad. I just wanted to understand what was going on. Maybe it was a problem with my settings, maybe a problem with the new library, but it turned out to be the need to compile the program against this new version. I had the impression that the point of using -current was to test the packages and report in case of trouble and, although pretty ignorantly, that's me doing that.
Edit: I reread the post and have the impression it may be sounding a little harsh. That's not my intention - it's hard to sound the way you feel in a second language.
