We have back an old bug solved sometime back.

After COMPRESS something , ark opens new dolphin instance.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440663

EDIT: This time is when compressing something

Steps to reproduce

1 - change desktop to "as folder"
2 - put something in the desktop
3 - use the action menu tu compress as tar.gz or other option

Result , you have a new dolphin instance after compressed file creation.

Of course i have "disabled/unchecked" , the option open new windows in tab under dolphin config.

As i say its old solved problem but now returns :=)

This week in KDE: Qt apps survive the Wayland compositor crashing
Nate. March 10, 2023.
Thanks to the heroic work of David Edmundson, Qt apps (including all KDE software) in Plasma 6 will now survive when the Wayland compositor crashes! This is huge! And work is ongoing to add this functionality to other common app toolkits, such as GTK.
Beyond that, Plasma 6 porting work continues, with more and more people using it.........

It seemeth to me that an increasing percentage of the development work on KDE5 is having deleterious effects on performance and introducing new bugs at a rapid rate, particularly those things relative to X display issues, networking, and sound.

I'd made my peace with pulse audio and wayland works very poorly on my hardware. While I liked kde5 just fine at first, it is definitely getting worse not better for me.

Am I alone in this opinion?

KDE KWin's Move Away From GBM Surfaces
By Michael Larabel. 14 March 2023.
KDE developer Xaver Hugl has written a blog post how the KWin compositor's DRM back-end has been working to move itself off GBM surfaces (gbm_surfaces) to instead allocate buffers directly and import them into EGL. This ultimately should be a win for the KWin compositor once everything is complete.............
The full story can be found here, https://www.phoronix.com/news/KDE-KW...om-GBM-Surface

In my personal experience as a wayland user, it used to be fragile in the past but it's getting better and better at every revision.
Are you aware of specific regressions that have been introduced recently? It would be nice to report them so developers can have a look before 5.27 stops getting LTS updates

I've never been able to get Wayland to work in any satisfactory way. What's the raison d'etre for Wayland?

As expected, considering that you own a NVIDIA graphics card and this NVIDIA, Inc. company tried its worst to sabotage the Wayland adoption by Linux distributions.

You known already that Wayland is the modern replacement of the stone-age Xorg server, full of spaghetti code and bugs like a stray dog.

So, if you want a raison d'etre, it's this one: as you don't go at job driving a 120 years old Ford T, why do you expect to use a X11 server?

Because NVIDIA wants so? Apparently there's a single way to deal with NVIDIA: the Mr. Torvalds' style.

Imagine that tomorrow ALL the Linux distributions will put down the Xorg server. Everybody. I bet that in no more than one month, the NVIDIA drivers will fly on Wayland.

In my setup it handles multi-monitor with different DPIs just automagically, including connection and disconnection using usb-c.

It would seem that our good and .faithful comrades in the caves over at the Wayland labs would recognize that lots of us have NVIDIA hardware and have no reason to unplug it. My motherboard has 2 ports and I often run 4 monitors from Model T Ford graphics card

This week in KDE: “More Wayland fixes”
Nate. March 17, 2023.
It’s become almost a running joke on Phoronix at this point, but this week we do indeed have more Wayland fixes! …And other things as well, including some good UI improvements to various KDE apps in addition to the background work of Qt 6 porting that is continuing full steam ahead, and reaching a position of increasing stability. Come see!.........

KDE Plasma Wayland tip

For those who use or want to use the "Full Wayland" session but have applications that still require x11

Modify your ~/.local/share/applications/<application>.desktop
Code:
Exec=env GDK_BACKEND="wayland,x11" /path/to/binary
Benefits here of the full wayland session: fast, smooth, touchpad gestures are amazing
