lion, I explained this to you in another thread you made about this. After you do: make xconfig , don't look for snd_ctl_open, you should look for the name of your soundcard, support for it's chipset... you know your soundcard right ? Anyway type: lspci and search for this "Multimedia audio controller:" after those words your sound card should appear. Remember that and search for it in Advanced Linux Sound Architecture in xconfig probably at PCI Devices and then compile the kernel. Good luck.

There's youtr problem, you are using the alsa driver compiled for the 2.4.32 kernel.
I use the 2.6.16.20 kernel, modules and alsa driver from /testing
nykey my Multimedia audio controller is Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02)
and i selected this shipset when i compiler the kernel and i said up before upgrading the kde was the sound is ok
after upgrading the kde sound stoped
davidsrsb i downloaded this packege alsa-driver-1.0.11_2.6.16.19-i486-1.tgz and upgrading
but no think happen what i do
good bye
I suggest that you start with the standard packages from /testing. Make sure that you kernel-generic, kernel-modules and alsa-driver are all exactly the same kernel revision.
Once everything is installed, run lilo etc, run alsaconf to load the correct modules, alsamixer and alsactl store.
I would just use the alsa modules from the kernel instead of the alsa-driver package. alsa-driver package will only work if you are using the exact same kernel the driver was compiled against. In your kernel setup, enable sound support, alsa, and your sound card as modules then recompile. After you restart, run 'aslaconf' and 'aslamixer'. If it still does not work, please post the output of 'lsmod'.
It doesn't look like you installed the modules I mentioned in my previous post. Did you turn them on as modules or hard code them into the kernel? 'aslaconf needs them enabled as modules. Did you compile modules with 'make modules && make modules_install'? If you did, can you find them in '/lib/modules/<kernel version>/kernel/sound/'? If you installed them right, you should have these modules loaded after you run 'alsaconf' :
note that a lot of these are related to my specific device, but you should get something similar.
If you have all the modules installed in the right place, then something is not loading right on your system. Do you have hotplug enabled? What happens when you run 'modprobe soundcore' or 'modprobe snd'?
my freinds i did every thing but no thing happened
i have one question ,,,,,,
why i after upgrade kde to 3.5.2 direct my sound stoped ?
i need real reply for this question
good bye
Sorry if my reply seemed rude. I was not going to help you out any more, but I am a nice guy so I will anyways ..despite your last comment.
The reason why you are not getting the response you want is due to the fact that you are either unwilling, or unable, to provide the information necessary to help you. You can't just say "my sound doesn't work" and expect to get a useful responce.
You need to provide the following information for anybody to help you:
How did you upgrade KDE? What else did you change in between your sound not working and when it worked? What version of KDE did you upgrade from? How did you compile the sound support into your kernel? Are the sound modules located in the right place? If so, why are they not loading? What happens when you tried to load them manually with modprobe? What error messages did you get in 'dmesg' that relates to your sound?
KDE has nothing to do with your sound and is not the source of the problem. You probably upgraded some dependencies (such as glibc) when you upgraded KDE. You need to be asking "why are my sound modules not loading?" instead of "why did KDE break my sound?"
Hope this was a little bit more helpful. Let me know when your willing to answer these questions and I will do my best to help you out.
