Upgrade to KDE 3.2 and No sound

I upgrade in these days to KDE 3.2 and now I don't have any sound in KDE of course, I still have sound in gnome or other windows manager, even in the old KDE (kde 3.1.4, kde 3.1.5 ) But whit the new kde 3.2 I don't know what arts did but i don't have sound. I check alsamixer settings and was normal, i check audiomix and was normal, i did an lsmod and the modules for my sound card are there, but i still have no sound in kde 3.2 I must say than when i upgrade kde 3.1.5 to kde 3.2 in the arts upgrading settings it says messages of warning that the file was changing where should i go now? I want my sound back in kde 3.2.

Seems like an arts problem. kill arts and set ur mplayer, xmms etc. to use /dev/dsp (or whatever i.e. 0,1,2,3) devices. Check if u get sound properly. You need to edit the arts configuration. See what changes are required for kde 3.2. Try googling a bit for pointers.

Im having the same issuse, running slackware 9.1 I removed all necessary pkgs with pkgtool and then used pkgtool to install all the new pkgs. Everything went smoothly but when i opened xmms and it doesn't work. Xmms is not set to use the arts stuff but rather was using OSS. Nothing I've tried thus far has worked. Still googling.

A lot of people are having this problem in KDE 3.2. I had this problem. One thing I noticed was the sound system is off by default in KDE. Go into your control panel and turn it on. Next open Kmix and make sure all options for your sound card are configured properly. That fixed the problem for me.

Check this thread, other people and I were discussing this (towards the bottom of the first page and on to the second page.):

yeah, Kmix was my solution except sound was all the way down, upped it, saved settings and I am good now. Was a little frustrating, easy fix.

This is my experience from Beta 1 to now.

For those having problems with no sound I had to chmod 0666 /dev/dsp* at times. That is before you start KDE.
With the scratchy sound or "horrible sound" I had to go into the Control Center->Sound & Multimedia -> Sound System -> Hardware and change the quality to 8 bits. I thought this would change or make the quality less that usual. It didn't Pink Floyd sound just as good.

A more drastic change need to be made in some cases I had to mv .kde kdeold and restart KDE to create the .kde directory and all its setting. After I had done this it all worked fine.

so far none of the easy fixes have worked for me. Another note is that when trying to play a music file in xmms or kadoodle ?whateveritscalled? the progress bar never moves through the song. Sure theres no sound but it should still be decoding and running through the file. Anyway I figure ill try compiling the latest alsa stuff when i upgrade to the 2.6.2 kernel tomorrow. I'm guessing thatll fix it.
