well ethernet... the server has no USB ports, but the problem is thet i have only heard about this kind of connection, so i realy do not know how it works exactly...
Your requirements will depend greatly on the ISP and their system. If you think you may need their technical support then I hate to say it here, but for the sake of the ISP and their very limited and narrow minded support staff, to bring up a new DSL circuit I would recommend testing with Windows first. Once you know that it is actually working to spec, then you will also know what requirements the system mandates. This can usually be done through a simple workstation or a notebook computer. Almost all of the ISP's I have dealt with will not even discuss Linux.
If you know of, or can locate, other customer(s) using the same service they may be able to describe their system and how it functions as well. The biggest difference that I know of; is if they have a userid and password authentication requirement. Then it shall require PPPoE software, mentioned in the prior post, unless a router is used that provides this ability. If not, then the setup would be a straight networking interface, using dhcp services for a dynamic IP or static route assignments.
My own preferences for a hosting server would be static route and/or router based. My last service was static route assignment with an adsl bridge and my current service is with a router using PPPoE with static subnet block assignment. For both services my equipment was just a simple ethernet network configuration. Both services are generally considered business class and not residential.
If your anticipated service does not appear to fall into the categories described, then perhaps if you would care to post what you do know of the service then others here surely have experience beyond my own limited service area.
Hope it helps to provide some direction and good luck.
thx all... I will dig some more... Today (8.03.2003) I will go and set up the server and the ADSL line comes anly in about 3 or 4 days, so I wll have much more time...
THX again
