Winex/rh9 problem....

Hello. I recently followed the instructions here
to download and install wine via cvs. Everything went fine downloading and extracting the file then make and make install. Everything seamed fine, untill I tried to use winex. It says if I type "wine" in terminal I should get a readout but instead I get this error.

wine: chdir to /root/.wine/wineserver-h24-108-240-146 : No such file or directory

I have no clue why I would get this error, nor do I have the knowledge or experience to fix it. Therefore I come to you fine folk to possibly help me find a solution.

Does anyone reading this know hw to fix this error?

Oh yeah I should also mention that I untarred it into my /home/currentuser/wine/ folder. The only /.wine/ directory (from the error message) that I know of is in /home/currentuser/.wine/ . But I don't know how to change where it looks for the winefiles when I type "wine" in terminal.

did you run /tools/wineinstall - or is it winetools? That should complete the setup.

Incidentally, you shouldn't double post, the rules state that quite clearly. If your post hasn't been answered in about a day, you should do a reply to it (most type *bump*) and that will return it to the top of the pile. A mod will no doubt post something to that effect.

Well first off sorry for the double post. I was ignorant to that and apologize.

I dl'd winetools to the directory /home/currentuser/winetools/ and untarred it there. I then just double clciked on the single file that it untarred and it brings up nice little gui with a few options sucha as create a fake windows drive, edit wine.conf, insatll apps, etc. I created a fake drive and it was succesfull. I still can't install my Half Life. Although it does recognize the cdrom.

Thanks again for all your help guys. Ooops I was running it in root! I am such a n00b.

Well my frustration is growing. I was told that the version that I installed does not work well with RH9 so I decided to uninstall the version that I had installed because it was an older version. I DL'd wiex3-3.1-1.i386.rpm. I beleive this version is supposed to work fine with Redhat 9. I just double clicked it and it installed fine from my home directory.

Now when I type wine in terminal i get.

bash: wine: command not found

Does anyone know what this means?

Being a n00b is not only frustrating for myself but you guys are probably getting frustrated as well. I
am sorry for my n00biness.

Can't wait to play HalfLife on Linux. Then I have next to no use for Windoze. That seems to be the biggest downfall of linux, GAMING!

wOrtez, Winex is a version of wine that is specifically designed to run game on linux platforms.
