when loading my screen flashes and monitor turns off.

i have an S3 video card and each time i load linux redhat my monitor flashes and the screen goes off. is there a way i can get a command prompt and if so what do i need to do to make it work properly?

i have a dual boot system and windows 2000 works fine. i am just having errors with linux.

is there a 'safe mode' where i could choose a working driver?

it detected my card when i was installing it. it seems to be loading even after the screen goes off.

look at my response to the thread started by 'Bix: Screen goes black when restarting X after changing resolution'. It is in reference to a different card, but the same issue, and how to log in and fix it. search the forums for 'radeon 7500' and you should see it. Hope it helps you.

After displaying first graphical screen, you should wait until boot up screen display "Red Hat Linux ...presss I for interactive mode"
Press I again and again. when your system display runlevel 5 type 3 and press enter.
After some time you will be at command prompt. type setup and set the vidio configuraton
