SYNC :OUT OF RANGE after xorg changes - RHEL4
hi...
i'm working on RHEL 4. i was doing some stuff on X-Server... me as a root said the following commands
# system-config-display
then i went to set the resolution of my monitor which was set to "800x600" earlier n i edited it to " 1024x768 "
now i m not able to goto runlevl 5...
i rebooted the system by setting default runlevel as 3 in /etc/inittab file...
now i said #startx
again i was not able 2get Graphical Login Screen
i get a BLANK screen displaying message as " SYNC :OUT OF RANGE"
how shall i proceed then...
i thought of editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf file also..
but was of no use
required service xfs is as usual running
please help me....

Basically you need to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and set the values that you changed back to what they were before. Ie - in the screen section, find the Modes line, and delete any resolutions above 800x600.
Then try to start X, and post back here what happened.

hi thanx ...
yup i was trying that only...
actually i saw a file called xorg.conf.backup in /etc/X11 dir..
opened it n saw that there was no such resolution that i have added
so i went to original xorg.conf file n removed the line "1024x768" from SubSection "Display" --> Modes ...........
finally i changed the default runlevel n then Graphical screen came up
bye !!
