RHEL kernel upgrade cycle

Does anyone know if there is a general trend to how often the RHEL kernel gets upgraded? I would like to run the copy of RHEL4 WS I have, but in order to run the latest NVIDIA graphics drivers they recommend using a kernel at or above 2.6.11. RHEL4 is only at 2.6.9. Is there any talk or possibility of an official patch that would upgrade to a newer kernel? Thanks.

The kernel gets upgraded only if necessary e.g. for security upgrades. You may have to compile or build your own kernel.

Thanks for the reply. I have never been able to get the kernel to compile quite right for my computer. I always end up without sound ethernet or some necessary feature. I guess I'll dive into it again here soon and see if I can be successful this time.
