RHEL 3 - X Windows not working

Hi ,

I have a DELL 6850 with ATI Radeon card...

Im new to Linux so am not 100% whats happening...

When i run init 5 to get x windows up , it ( after i check logs) tells me:

"Fatal Error" - No screens found

restart gdm when ok....

Im not sure but think it could be the Graphics card? Its an ATI Radeon....

Any help would be great!! thanks!!

When i ran redhat-config-xfree86 I get :

*ddcprobe returned bogus values:
ID:None
Name:None
Horizsync:None
VertSync:None

Couldn't start X server, trying with a fresh configuration

VertSync:None

Trying with card: ATI Radeon 7000

Error, cannot start X Server

Did you ever figure out how to fix this? I'm having the same problem with the same machine. Thanks, Paul.

I updated the RPMS this morning for XFree86.. Was on Release Number 35 .. 81 is latest for XFree86..

all working :-)

Thanks, after updating everything it did the trick. I'm actually going to try RHEL 4.0, so far graphical install is working so I think everything will work fine without the Dell server assist program.
