problem with modem in RHL8.0

Hey All,

I have been trying to get RH8 to see my lucent modem. I have gone to linmodems.com and have down loaded the appropraite rpms and ran scanmodem. When rebooting the sys I was asked to config the modem which I did but when I attempted to add a new connection via the wizard it couldn't see the modem or it stated that there was no modem. I did the same with a Motorola modem as well.

Any suggestions?

Toby

Can you post the scanmodem output? Not all Lucent modems are supported.

As for not finding the modem, perhaps the /dev/modem link was not present after the reboot. This sometimes happens for people who use "udev". Check and see if you have an /etc/udev directory - if so, some additional work may be necessary to keep the /dev/modem link around after reboots. An easier way would be to tell your dialer (kppp/wvdial or whatever) the exact name of the special device file, which is probably either /dev/ttyLT0 or /dev/ttyLTM0.

Regards,
Jeff
PS: the linmodems-discuss mailing list, which you can find from linmodems.org, often does a better job of debugging these issues. They have a lot of experience with Lucent modems.
