Pango wants >=glib-2.4.0, I installed glib 2.4.7 and pango still says I need >=2.4.0
I'm taking an old install of Red Hat 7.3 and trying to bring it up to speed, so I'm installing glib and pango so that I can install the latest version of GTK+. I tried pango first, and was told that I needed to install a more recent version of glib first. So I compiled and successfully installed glib-2.4.7. Its default installation prefix was /usr/local, but I noticed that libglib-2.0.so is in /usr/lib so I installed glib-2.4.7 with a prefix of /usr. When I go to configure pango-1.4.1, though, I get the following message:
Code:
*** Glib 2.4.0 or better is required. The latest version of
*** Glib is always available from ftp://ftp.gtk.org
I KNOW I have v2.4.7 of glib installed, does anyone know why this error is showing?
BTW, I also have the latest version of pkgconfig installed.
Did you try an updatedb and a ldconfig? Is it in your path? Who are you installing as, root or a user and is this an RPM or from source? Better details get better replies.
updatedb never fixes such an error. It just updates the slocate database, which is unrelated.
ldconfig is very unlikely to fix the error, because it maintains the run-time linkers cache.
Check output in pango's "config.log", as to why it fails. You may need to point pkgconfig to /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig (see its manual page), before it finds the glib pkgconfig file.
I got it. I set the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable to include /usr/lib/pkgconfig, since that's where GLib is installed. I wouldn't have installed it there to begin with, but that's where the previous version was installed.
