You're better off using CentOS (centos.org), which is a 'binary equivalent' of RHEL.
While it is not a RedHat Inc product, it is virtually identical to RHEL, and probably better suited to your needs.
However,
If you take the RHCT, RHCE or RHCA exam, you need to know things about RHEL. Going to a course can't be replaced by using a distro.
A good start would be to use http://www.amazon.com/Certified-Engi...7525270&sr=8-1
Re Fedora / Centos comparison; ignore, it's irrelevant and 'wrong'
1. centos = RHEL (rebadged and free, but same code etc) ie RHEL 5.3 (latest) = centos 5.3
2. Fedora is the bleeding edge test/dev distro for stuff that will end up in RHEL (and thus centos).
You can't really compare Fedora to RHEL.
For all intents and purposes RHEL/Centos5 is FC6 with CURRENT security updates and hardware support. RHEL/Centos5.0 was based on FC6. While it is fair to say that its backbone is older than Fedora 11(it is), it is not fair to say that it is obsolete. Basically Fedora is the test bed for new technology(thus bleeding edge) that may(or may not) wind up in RHEL/Centos. RHEL/Centos4 was based on FC3. RHEL/Centos6 WAS scheduled to be based on Fedora9, however it proved to be far to buggy(as did F10). It LOOKs like RHEL/Cenots6 MAY be based on F11, assuming no major issues occur with F11. RHEL stands for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, this means that it HAS to be very stable. By very definition this means that it will lag behind Fedora (bleeding edge) by a few generations.
IF RHEL6 is basically just a copy (like RHEL5.0/FC6) of a newer Fedora release(F11?) it will probably be the largest jump the RHEL has ever made. Just the elimination of hdX drive designation (in favor of sdX for everything, pata and sata) will be huge jump and there are many such jumps between FC6 and F11(RHEL5 and RHEL6?).
