Grub configuration

I used to have Slackware (/dev/hda2) and Windows 2000 (/dev/hda1) installled on my machine.

Then a couple of days ago, I decided to install Redhat 9. After installing it, I had no way of rebooting to Slackware. On the boot up screen, where u select an OS, I can only select Redhat or DOS (I'm guessing that's win 2000).

I openned up grub.conf and entered the following:

title Slackware Linux 9.1
kernel /boot/vmlinuz ro root=/dev/hda2

but when I select Slackware at the bootup screen, I get an error in mounting the fs. The message says something like 'Kernel Panic ..'

Anyhow, what can I do to boot to Slackware?

Thanks in advance.

PS. The partition /dev/hda3 is used for swap by both Slackware + Redhat. When installing Redhat, I dont' remember specifying whether or not the partition would be used by more than 1 OS.

You most likely have one of 2 problems.

1. Your slackware root partition is not /dev/hda2.

2. Your slackware kernel doesn't have fs support for the fs you formatted your root file system with.

The swap sharing doesn't matter, swap partitions get blown away everytime a swapon command is sent to them (which happens at boot).

The first wouldn't be my problem because on my slackware partition, the following is in lilo.conf:

Code:
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz
  root = /dev/hda2
  label = Linux
  read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends

# DOS bootable partition config begins
other = /dev/hda1
  label = Win2k
  optional
How would I fix the problem if it's the second issue?

What kind of kernel panic you got???
In grub, remember to put the path to Slack initrc, otherwise you'll get a kernel panic saying unable to find initrc.
