compile a new kernel with setting default to current kernel

I am running redhat linux 9.0 pro.

I want to compile a new kernel. As there are so many configuration options that i need to choose, so i'm afraid that i may choose wrong value for some options.

So is there any way that when i run the menuconfig command, all the options are default to my current setting ?

Thanks,

In your /usr/src/linux directory, you should find a subdirectory called configs. In this directory you should be able to find the config file for your default kernel (the files have descriptions that will help you pick appropriately).

Copy the appropriate file from this directory to the /usr/src/linux directory as .config. The menuconfig tool will use it to set your defaults.

There is pretty good step by step documentation in the RH manuals - available on the RH website.
