boot hangs at "Initializing RT netlink socket"

I had RH 7.2 running on Dell dimension 4100 (dual boot with Windows 2000) with no problems. I upgraded to 9.0, and the boot hangs after:

Initailizing RT netlink socket
apm: BIOS Version 1.2 Flags 0x03 (Driver Version 1.16)
Anyone know what is causing this?

Thank you.
