I need to learn how manually install the drivers for a new printer

I have the Linux drivers "that work" already downloaded.
I need to know where to start and how to proceed.
Lucid Puppy
Canon MP250
Thanks

CUPS is recommended.

Menu-Setup-CUPS Printer Wizard - Add printer

If the Driver for your printer is not already recognized in CUPS you may have to install them via the Install Icon on the desktop.
