Serial Communications Library

Folks,

For using the serial ports in aprogram (C, C++), is there a serial communications library ? What do you use if you need to write software that deals with receving/transmitting data over the serial port ? Do you write the serial communications routines from scratch ? Or is it so easy with Linux that one does not need a library ?

Anyhow, if anyone knows of a serial communication library, free or commercial, I'd like to know. If you have hints and suggestions about serial communication programming under Linux, I'd also like to know.

Cheers,
Al
