Has anyone tried BREW?

I was thinking about making some programs for my Kyocera kx9c cellphone ,only I have no idea what I'm doing.A little web research tells me I can use BREW .BREW is a c/c++ SDK you can use to write programs for certain cellphones. At least that is my feeble understanding of what exactly BREW is.I can't get any information from the Qualcomm website unless I register. To register I need to put the name of my company.Obviously I don't have a company.O.K.I could put a fake company just to get the SDK and the info but I would like to know what I can do with it first. What cellphone functions can I access? That way I can think of something besides "hello world!" to write.I can't even find any example source code. That's why we all love proprietary crap ,right?

Anyway,is BREW worth all the trouble?

Hi -

If you're really interested in programming for cell phones, I'd definitely encourage you to look into BREW. I'm no fan of proprietary APIs either, but I think asking you to register is reasonable.

Anyway, here's a good article about Brew in the on-line version of Byte:

'Hope that helps .. PSM

PS:
Byte will ask you to register, too ;-)

I used bugmenot to check it out but it still doesn't tell me what my cellphone will do .You have to be certified to get that info :P .I found a forum for BREW and it looks like you can compile BREW with gcc.I also found some developers complaining about how buggy the tools where.I good computer blew a PSU so I'm waiting to get it fixed before I set anything up. Here is a link to some info for anyone interested.
