embedded C

Hello, friends,
Recently I have been asked whether I am familiar with embedded C, and I had no idea what to answer. I am programming a real time system using C... I have tried to google for the word embedded and found books (not free), and what I could understand from the tittles that there is a connection to real time and hardware. Could You suggest me any sites where I could learn more about embedded C or maybe just tell me what is meant by that phrase.

By definition:
An embedded system is a computer that lives inside another device and acts as a component of that device

IMO embedded means a microprocessor or single board PC that does not have the standard human interface. No keyboard, video display, mouse etc and no hard drive. The c compiler is designed for that microprocessor and or single board comuputer.

VCRs, microwaves, cell phones and TVs are common examples of embedded systems. TiVo is an example of an embedded application that runs on linux.
