Hi,
I've got a Gentoo Stage1 install on a 2400+ (512meg ram) which is already running X etcetera. But I want to get Gentoo on some more computers and I'm testing distcc on the 2400+ machine so I can get better compile-times .
I've got an amd64 3200+, and opteron144 and a dual opteron 244 so it should be a lot faster. If it would work :-( (I know, I'm probably doing something very wrong)....
What I did:
Got distcc on the gentoo machine using emerge distcc. Added FEATURES="distcc" in my make.conf . Also raised the -j number to 3 . (just wanted to try with my 3200+). I've added the distcc dir to $PATH :
Code:
export PATH="/usr/lib/ccache/bin:/usr/lib/distcc/bin:${PATH}"
Code:
/usr/bin/distcc-config --set-hosts "192.168.1.13"
(192.168.1.13 is the 3200+ which acts as server).
Afterwards I've downloaded distcc manually and installed it (using the manual
) on my Sarge based 3200+. Then I did:
distccd --daemon --allow "192.168.1.148" (192.168.1.148 is the gentoo machine).
My manual (gentoo.org) said:
/etc/init.d/distccd start
but this wasn't available on the debian box, so I tried :
/etc/init.d/distcc start which worked fine (it seemed to me ;-) ). When trying to compile OO.org on the gentoo box, emerge complained it couldn't distribute the work (top on the server told the same, it wasn't used!!!) .
So I tried getting distcc using apt-get , I reconfigured everyting, and it still doesn't work.
What's wrong?
