usb modem doesnt work in mandrake 10

i am a complete newbie to linux and ive just installed Mandrake 10 after previously failing (being failed by) Lycoris Desktop, SuSE 8.2, SuSE 9.1.

i'd like to get online now but my Origo ASU-8000 USB ADSL modem does not work.

There is a green light that comes on when Windows boots up, to tell me that ADSL has been detected. This is before i actually connect to the internet.

So until this light comes on with Mandrake, i cannot connect regardless of how to do it via the Mandrake software.

I have the CD but im not sure what to do with it or whether its contents is applicable in a linux environment.

someone get me online in linux!

According to my ISP the Origo ASU-8000 is not supported by Linux because there are no drivers, however they reckon that Conextant Access Runner drivers may work because thats the chipset used in the modem.

Anyone know where or how i get Conextant Access Runner drivers for linux? And how the hell i might go about installing them?

P.S. I'm afraid that "HOW TO" link kindly supplied above is dead for me.
