already install modem driver but still doesnt work!!!
hi guys, i'm newbie in linux. i have a 56k ESSt-pi modem internal, and i currently use RH 7.3. i just download a modem driver for linux from this address http://sidlo.penguin.cz/ES2838/index_en.html
i already follow all the steps in there, and by the time type connect from the KPPP user interface, i only heard that the modem is making a small noise like it it tries to dial up but later on it stop.
and for information before i install this driver, when i try to query my modem from the modem tab, i can't get any respond, but now it shows the specification of my modem. i thought it should have been working but it seems is not.
can any body help me with this please?
thanks guys

Not likely, your link doesn't work, and the Winmodem list shows it as non-usable.

Can you come up with a working link?

Open up the log while you are trying to connect so that you can get some post-mortem debug info. You might have to turn on debug to get this to work.
Assuming that the modem now works, then I would probably try "wvdial" to set it up. To see if it really works, try dailing into an old BBS in minicom.
However, I would consider upgrading to a good USR modem before I spent too much more effort on it..
