Random crashes (memory problem?)
Hi!
I recently bought 1GB DDR400 PC3200 of memory (no brand) for my PC (Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz, GigaByte GA-8I915P Duo Pro motherboard, dual boot Mandriva Linux 10.2 and Windows XP home). I used to have 1GB (no brand) already and everything was running fine.
Since I installed the new memory module, I get some random crashes, just doing nothing (clicking, opening an xterm, just sitting here...). It seems that everytime I boot my PC, it HAS TO crash one time and then I can work forever without a single problem. I really don't get it...
I moved the memory module to a guest computer running XP home as a sanity check and I tested the memory modules with the Memtest86 Memory Diagnostic program. After pass 5 without a single error, I decided the memory modules where OK. But still, my PC keeps crashing (and it even happens with XP and on the guest computer too).
So, I'm really wondering. Would there be something wrong with the new 1GB memory module even if all the Memtest86 checks went OK? Would there be some compatibility problem between my two memory modules or these of the guest computer?
I'd really really appreciate some help from you guys because I'm totally clueless on that one...
